 2011 – 2012 PROSPECTS PROGRAM

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Prospects Program is an integrated scouting system to identify the top prospects in British Columbia for potential future involvement as a full time youth player in the Whitecaps FC Residency, or Girls Elite programs. Working in conjunction with community clubs across British Columbia, we will aim to identify, evaluate and monitor players in the Under 11 and Under 12 age groups who show the qualities of an elite level soccer player.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC is committed to identifying and evaluating players on an ongoing basis in a thorough, responsible and transparent manner, involving the following elements:

  1.  Scouting Series (click to download PDF file)
    • Open for Under 11 and Under 12 boys and girls community club Academy/Select/Development teams
    • One day non-result-based "tournaments" aimed at the initial and ongoing identification and evaluation of players. Each team plays 3 games (30 mins in duration)
    • Three events for each age group/gender on an annual basis between September and March of each season
    • All events take place at the Whitecaps FC Training Facility at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby
    • Clubs wishing to participate must meet all entrance requirements and complete the application process

  2. Player Scouting
    • On an annual basis, Whitecaps FC technical staff will actively scout the Under 12 age group from across BC looking to identify players for potential entrance into full time WFC programming for the following season.
    • Emphasis will be placed on the Under 12 Select/Gold level leagues and tournaments
    • Visits to club academies and programming
    • WFC technical staff will also seek recommendations from community team coaches as well as Club Head Coaches/Technical Directors

  3. Player Combines
    • Under 12 age groups ONLY
    • Players who have been identified through various scouting mechanisms will be invited in for a 2-3 day Player Combine to be held annually in March/April of each season.
    • Players who are invited to attend the Player Combine will be selected based on their proven ability to meet the expected technical, tactical, physical, social and emotional expectations of a Vancouver Whitecaps FC youth player.

This Prospects  programs is aimed at providing Whitecaps FC coaching staff, BC Soccer/CSA staff and community club Technical Directors/Club Head Coaches a platform in which to monitor an individual player's development and progress over the duration of an entire playing season, with the ultimate goal of placing elite level players on the most suitable development pathway by the time they reach the U13 group.
